Agra: Two Muzaffarnagar residents — Danish alias Chand Miya, 24, a banner maker and Class 5 dropout, and Salman, 20, a carpenter and Class 12 pass — were among six alleged operatives arrested after Delhi Police busted two Pakistan-linked terror modules allegedly handled by gangster Shahzad Bhatti.
Their families, however, denied the allegations on Tuesday, a day after Delhi Police informed them about the arrests.Danish’s mother Gulishata Begum said her son had gone with another youth who told him that a labour contractor owed him Rs 5,000 and asked him to accompany him to collect the money. “He initially refused, but the boy insisted and so he went with him. Then, we had no information about them for three days.
We repeatedly tried calling them, but their phones were switched off,” she said. She said the family kept searching for Danish before receiving a call from Delhi Police that he and Salman had been arrested over suspicious links with a Pakistan-based gang. “After receiving the phone call, we reached Delhi, where our son said that someone had called them and offered Rs 30,000 to collect a package from a particular location.
He said that when they were on their way to collect it, they were arrested,” she said.Gulishata added, “My son makes banners with his three other brothers and they travel when they get assignments. They go to places like Gujarat and Delhi. Danish is not well educated. He is a simple boy.”Salman’s sister Darksha said he worked as a carpenter in Delhi and was never involved with any gang. “We also got a call from Delhi Police who told us that he is associated with a gang.
The cops said petrol bombs have been recovered. We’re shocked. He was never involved with such people. He only does furniture work. He was working with my other brother in Delhi,” she said.Darksha said Salman had gone to collect money owed by a fellow worker on the day he was arrested. “We do not know anything beyond that. My brother is innocent and should be released,” she said.Muzaffarnagar SP Amrit Jain said, “Delhi Police’s cyber cell busted a terror network operating in the national capital, and the information was shared by an additional DCP of Delhi Police. Among the six arrested, two are from Anti village under Muzaffarnagar district’s Khatauli police station. Preliminary probe indicates both were residing in the national capital, and Delhi Police recovered certain objectionable materials from them.
The local intelligence unit, along with other agencies, is also working on the case.”
