Pakistan has denied reports linking its recent diplomatic engagements with any shift in its long-standing regional positions, particularly on Israel and Gaza, during the Foreign Office’s weekly briefing in Islamabad. Responding to growing speculation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tahir Andrabi clarified that Pakistan’s decision to engage with US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace" should not be misconstrued as Islamabad joining the Abraham Accords or aligning itself with any Israel-normalisation framework.

Andrabi stated that Pakistan “will not join the Abraham Accords," stressing that participation in the peace board does not imply recognition of Israel or a departure from Pakistan’s established stance on the Palestinian issue. He further rejected suggestions that Pakistan had joined any international stabilisation or security force for Gaza, calling such interpretations “incorrect and misleading."

On regional security, the Pakistani spokesperson adopted a notably sharp tone towards Afghanistan. Andrabi said there is a “clear and continuing trend" of terrorists involved in attacks inside Pakistan originating from Afghan territory. Contradicting claims made by the Taliban government, he asserted that Afghan nationals are actively planning and executing terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil, and that Afghan territory is being used to facilitate such operations. He emphasised that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan “has to stop," signalling Islamabad’s growing frustration with Kabul.

The briefing also touched upon diplomatic concerns with India. Andrabi claimed there is a “marked difference" in the treatment of Pakistani diplomats, urging New Delhi to ensure “normal and civilised" conduct in line with diplomatic traditions. He expressed hope that Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi would be able to hold its National Day celebrations without obstruction, appealing to India to uphold established diplomatic norms.

However, top Indian intelligence sources have offered a sharply different interpretation of Pakistan’s recent messaging. According to these assessments, Islamabad is attempting to draw closer to Western powers and Trump-linked initiatives while simultaneously avoiding the domestic political cost of acknowledging Israel or alienating conservative Islamic constituencies. Indian sources describe Pakistan’s posture as a calculated balancing act driven by internal fears rather than a coherent regional vision.

The intelligence assessment further alleges that Pakistan’s narrative on terrorism is a deflection tactic, arguing that elements within Pakistan’s establishment have historically supported cross-border militancy when it suited strategic interests, only distancing themselves under international pressure or fear of sanctions.

What Are The Abraham Accords?

The Abraham Accords are US-backed agreements launched in 2020 to normalise relations between Israel and a group of Arab states, breaking with decades of regional policy that tied recognition of Israel to the creation of a Palestinian state. Under the accords, countries such as the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan established diplomatic ties with Israel, opening the door to cooperation in trade, security, technology and travel. Supporters view the accords as a pragmatic step toward regional stability and economic integration, while critics argue they marginalise the Palestinian issue and weaken collective leverage over Israel on statehood and occupation.
