Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir on Wednesday arrived in Tehran to facilitate diplomatic exchanges between Iran and the United States following failed negotiations held in Islamabad over the weekend.

A top security source told CNN-News18 that Munir is expected to hold in-depth discussions with senior Iranian officials on the recent US-Iran talks and review the positions of both negotiating sides.

Sources also said he is likely to meet Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, although there has been no official confirmation from Tehran.

The source further added that Munir is expected to seek full support from Iran’s leadership for a second round of talks in Islamabad in the next 5–7 days.
