Islamabad has been put on high alert as Pakistan prepares for the second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran to end the West Asia conflict.
While official confirmation remains subject to some uncertainty due to “mixed signals from Iran", intense preparations indicate that Pakistan expects the talks to commence in the next five days.
According to government officials, extensive security protocols and logistical arrangements are being finalised in Islamabad. To ensure the safety of the expected delegations, authorities have placed Islamabad and Rawalpindi on “red alert", while luxury hotels have been asked to vacate their premises ordering guests to leave. Some universities also issued closure notices till April 26.
A top security source told News 18 that major establishments, including hotels like the Serena, Marriott, and Move n Pick, have instructed their guests to leave by this evening.
“All major hotels are told to vacate the premises by evening," the source said, adding that the government has requisitioned these venues to accommodate the high-powered talks.
Sources said the Noor Khan airbase in Rawalpindi has been designated as the primary “VIP strip" for the arrival of foreign officials. To oversee these, specialised advance security teams and experts have already reached Islamabad.
The sources said law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert with “all necessary security measures and arrangements already made". Stringent measures have also been extended to the local population.
They said residents living along the official travel route from Noor Khan airbase to the Serena Hotel have been issued strict directives regarding privacy and surveillance. Law enforcement personnel are being deployed on rooftops and along the roads to occupy strategic vantage points. District administration notices have explicitly advised residents “not to record videos of convoys" as the high-level delegations pass through.
Following the return of delegations from Iran and Turkey, authorities have ordered the installation of billboards and branding similar to those seen during the first round of negotiations on April 11. A top security source said by taking these measures, “Pakistan is sending clear signals that talks are happening".
