Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday extended his wishes to BNP chairman Tarique Rahman for registering a resounding victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. He further expressed optimism in working closely with the new Bangladesh leadership to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Taking to X, Sharif congratulated the BNP chairman and wrote, “I extend my warmest felicitations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading the BNP to a resounding victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. I also congratulate the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the elections."

“I look forward to working closely with the new Bangladesh leadership to further strengthen our historic, brotherly multifaceted bilateral relations and advance our shared goals of peace, stability, and development in South Asia and beyond," he added.

In addition to Sharif, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also extended his wishes to Tarique Rahman and said that Pakistan remains committed to elevating bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh.

“Warm felicitations to Mr. Tariq Rahman on leading the elections in Bangladesh. I am confident that, under your able stewardship, Bangladesh will continue its journey towards peace, progress, and prosperity," Dar wrote on a post on X.

“Pakistan remains committed to elevating our bilateral cooperation on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect. I also congratulate the people of Bangladesh on a successful democratic transition," he added.

BNP Registers Massive Win

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday claimed victory in the crucial general elections and is set to replace the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus, which took charge after the fall of the Awami League regime in August 2024.

“The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP is set to form the government after victory in the majority of seats," BNP’s media cell posted on X.

With BNP winning over 200 seats in the 300-member Jatiya Sangsad or House of the Nation, party chairman Tarique Rahman is said to assume the office of Prime Minister.

Following the landslide victory of the BNP in the much-awaited Bangladesh polls, wishes poured in to congratulate the country for the successful completion of elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman on his party’s sweeping victory in the country’s parliamentary elections, affirming India’s continued support for a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “I convey my warm congratulations to Mr Tarique Rahman on leading BNP to a decisive victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh."

Reiterating India’s position on bilateral ties, the Prime Minister added, “India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh."

The United States congratulated Tarique Rahman and the BNP for the historic victory in the 13th general election of Bangladesh.

BNP Calls For Prayers Today

The BNP, which returned to power after 20 years, thanked the people soon after winning a majority in the overnight vote count and called for special prayers on Friday for the nation and its people.

“Despite winning … by a large margin of votes, no celebratory procession or rally shall be organised," the party said in a statement calling for prayers nationwide.
