A senior Pakistan Army officer, Colonel Imran Khan, was killed on Thursday in an attack reportedly carried out by militants linked to the banned Tehreek‑i‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Dera Ismail Khan, according to initial reports.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on Colonel Khan’s vehicle near Karamat Abad on Bannu Road, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene. Initial accounts indicate that the attackers specifically targeted the army officer.

According to Pakistani media reports, Colonel Khan was travelling in a civilian vehicle at the time of the attack. He had been posted in Quetta and was on vacation in his hometown of Dera Ismail Khan at the time of the shooting.

The TTP has carried out a series of deadly attacks on security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province since abandoning a ceasefire with the government in 2022, with assaults intensifying in recent months.

More details are expected, as officials have yet to release further information on the incident.
