Panchkula: Alongside traditional vehicle-based and foot patrols, the Panchkula police has now introduced mounted police patrols. The objective of this initiative is not only to effectively control crime, but also to extend police reach to areas inaccessible to standard vehicles. As part of this initiative, the team from Sector 21 police post, led by In-charge Didar Singh, conducted mounted patrols in the area on Thursday. During the patrol, police personnel covered public spaces, lanes, open grounds, and sensitive zones, while also interacting with local residents. The new system was received with curiosity.DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta stated that this step was not merely an alternative patrol system but a practical model designed with future needs in mind.
She noted that mounted patrols could prove instrumental in strengthening crime control and vigilance. She further added that this initiative would help reduce fuel consumption, thereby promoting environmental conservation. Additionally, the presence of mounted police enhanced police visibility, fostering a sense of security among the public and exerting a psychological deterrent on anti-social elements, she added.
She mentioned that the system had currently been launched on a trial basis, and its outcomes would be evaluated. “If this model proves effective, consideration will be given to expanding it to other areas in the future, aiming to make policing more capable, eco-friendly, and based on public participation”.
