A 41-year-old passenger on an easyJet flight was arrested as he claimed there was a bomb on the plane, and shouted “Death to America, death to [US President Donald] Trump".
According to multiple social media reports, the incident happened on Flight EZY609 from Luton to Glasgow, Scotland.
Videos of the incident, shared on social media, showed chaos on the flight as passengers intervened and subdued the man, as he stood up and claimed he had a bomb.
Moments later, he shouted, “Stop the plane. Find the bomb on the plane."
“Death to America. Death to Trump," he yelled, before repeatedly shouting “Allahu Akbar" three times.
Multiple reports also claimed the flight was diverted to the nearest airport thereafter.
In another incident, passengers aboard a Southwest Airlines jet suffered moments of panic after the pilot told them that they nearly struck another plane before landing safely in Las Vegas.
The Boeing 737 jet dropped hundreds of feet in a little over 30 seconds during a flight on July 25, according to a flight tracking website.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the flight, Southwest 1496, was responding to an on board alert about another aircraft in its vicinity. The FAA was investigating.
Southwest said the crew responded to two alerts that required the pilot to climb, then descend. The flight left Hollywood Burbank Airport just before noon.
Southwest said the flight continued to Las Vegas, “where it landed uneventfully."
The airline said that it is working with the FAA “to further understand the circumstances" of the event.
This close call is just the latest incident to raise questions about aviation safety in the wake of January’s midair collision over Washington, DC, that killed 67 people.
