‘Papa, Main Jaa Rahi Hu’: Woman’s Final Video Leads to Case Against Husband in Nangloi, dowry death in Khyala

New Delhi: A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her home in Nangloi Extension, west Delhi, on Tuesday, and police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against her husband.Videos supposedly recorded by the woman, Tina, before her death have surfaced on social media. In the video, she is seen addressing her father, saying: “Papa, main jaa rahi hoon.” She also asks her family to take care of her one-and-a-half- year-old daughter and alleges mistreatment by her husband.Police said information regarding the woman came to them at 11.09 am. Tina lived on the first floor of a rented house with her husband Rohit and their daughter.

The family had moved in about 3-4 months ago.Rohit allegedly found the house locked from inside. After repeated knocks went unanswered, he tried to look inside through a window opening towards the staircase.Deepak Kashyap, a neighbour, told TOI: “I was gioing to work around 8-9 am when I found her husband banging on the door repeatedly asking for help.... We could hear the daughter crying inside.”He said neighbours helped the husband gain access into the house.

“He along with the neighbours broke open the window and saw the woman dead inside,” Kashyap said.Another neighbour said: “We saw the child at her mother’s feet, trying to wake her up.”A senior police officer said the woman’s mother said before the SDM that Rohit used to assault Tina when drunk. During the inquiry, family members submitted two videos purportedly by Tina. “The videos reflect intense psychological distress,” a senior police officer said.The officer added, “Rohit is under treatment for a head injury caused from an accident a few months ago and as per his doctor, he is not likely to survive beyond 2-3 years.”Police said the case against him is under section 80 (husband subjecting wife to cruelty) and 108 (abetment of suicide) of BNS.In another incident, a 24-year-old woman was found dead in a rented room in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar on Tuesday.The SDM recorded the statements of her family members when allegations of cruelty by her in-laws were raised.A case under sections 80 (dowry death), 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting woman to cruelty) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS has been registered.
