A mysterious parcel containing nude photographs of a man and a woman, rotten vegetables and other unusual items has triggered fears of black magic at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, prompting a police investigation.

The parcel reportedly arrived at the airport’s post office and contained rotten tomatoes, a flower garland, pieces of iron and toothpaste, besides the obscene photos. The items were reportedly arranged together in a manner resembling ritualistic practices, which alarmed airport staff.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, the parcel was addressed to the Kempegowda International Airport office, and employees were shocked when they opened it and discovered the contents. Some staff members reportedly feared that the items could be linked to black magic rituals meant to cause mental distress to airport officials.

Following the discovery, the airport authorities filed a complaint at the Kempegowda International Airport police station. Police have launched an investigation to identify the sender of the parcel and determine the motive behind it.

What The Law Says About Black Magic

India does not have a nationwide law that directly criminalises black magic or occult practices. However, several states have enacted legislation to curb harmful practices carried out in the name of superstition.

Karnataka has the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Act, 2017, which came into effect in 2020. The law prohibits a range of practices associated with black magic and inhuman rituals carried out under the guise of supernatural powers.

Similarly, Maharashtra enacted the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, which criminalises acts such as human sacrifice, fraudulent miracle claims and exploitative rituals performed in the name of supernatural powers.

Experts say such laws are meant to prevent exploitation and protect people from harmful practices carried out under the pretext of supernatural beliefs.

Police in Bengaluru are currently investigating the suspicious parcel to determine whether it was a prank, an act of intimidation, or linked to any ritualistic activity.
