Parking chaos plagues RMC wards 19 and 20

Ranchi: Wards 19 and 20 under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) are grappling with chronic parking problems across several localities, adding to existing civic woes such as open drains and tangled overhead electrical wires.Despite their prominence, both wards witness frequent traffic snarls due to haphazard parking, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters alike.Ward 19, which houses major hospitals such as Debuka Nursing Home and Ram Pyari Hospital on SN Yadav Road, often sees vehicles parked indiscriminately along narrow stretches, leading to congestion and delays — especially during peak hours and medical emergencies.

The ward covers areas such as Karamtoli, Nagratoli, SN Yadav Road, Deputy Para, Harihar Singh Road, Radium Road and Annapurna Chowk.Pothole-ridden stretches on SN Yadav Road, particularly near hospital access points, further compound the difficulties faced by patients and visitors.Vishal Ranjan, a resident of SN Yadav Road, said the absence of designated parking spaces makes daily commuting tiresome. “During peak hours, vehicles visiting hospitals along with regular traffic bring movement to a standstill.

The road needs widening and proper parking facilities to ensure smoother flow,” he said.Ward 20, which includes the Governor’s House, faces similar issues. Commuters complain that the lack of designated parking spaces and poor enforcement of traffic rules have led to roadside parking, choking already congested roads. The ward covers Upper Bazar, Gaushala Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Lok Bhawan and Ratu Road Chowk.

Locals said the absence of designated auto stands near Lok Bhavan has resulted in haphazard parking, adding to commuter woes.“Despite being a high-security zone, the area has received little attention from authorities. Auto rickshaws remain parked on the road in large numbers, causing persistent congestion. The problem has continued for years without a permanent solution,” said Sunil Yadav, a local resident.Another resident, Rupesh Kumar, said congestion near Lok Bhavan worsens during peak hours. “Vehicles from the Ratu Road flyover converge with traffic from the Lok Bhawan side, and the haphazard parking of autos further aggravates the situation,” he said.
