A monthly fee of up to Rs 3,000 per car has been suggested, with implementation likely under a public-private partnership model.

The draft proposes the creation of designated parking zones across the city.
Bengaluru may soon see the introduction of a structured parking fee policy, with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) preparing a draft aimed at regulating roadside parking and curbing misuse of designated parking spaces.
Under the proposed draft, vehicle owners could be required to pay if they park outside their house compounds, including on public roads.
Officials say the move is intended to tackle traffic congestion and address situations where buildings are constructed without adequate parking, forcing residents to park on roads.
Authorities point out that unregulated roadside parking causes inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians.
The draft proposes the creation of designated parking zones across the city, where only those paying the fee would be allowed to park. A monthly fee of up to Rs 3,000 per car has been suggested, with implementation likely under a public-private partnership model.

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao said many residents are parking vehicles in front of their homes and on public roads without paying any rent or tax. He pointed out that even parking spaces earmarked within buildings are being rented out for other purposes, including small commercial uses.
According to Rao, the draft policy includes multiple clauses and is designed to be implemented effectively on main and connecting roads, while minimising inconvenience on residential streets. He stressed that unregulated roadside parking is leading to accidents and difficulties for pedestrians.
“Public roads are being treated like private property. Personal problems are turning into public problems," he said.
The proposal has not yet been formally submitted to the government, but the draft framework is ready, Rao added.
