Parliament Budget Session 2026 Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to speak in the Rajya Sabha today, a day after proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned amid sloganeering and chaos by the Opposition on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister was expected to address the Lok Sabha and reply to the President’s Motion of Thanks at 5 PM on Wednesday; however, the Lok Sabha was adjourned after disruptions by the Opposition.
A chaos erupted in the lower house after Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to cite former Army chief Naravane’s unpublished memoir about the 2020 eastern Ladakh standoff with China. BJP leaders said this went against parliamentary rules and could lower the morale of the armed forces.
The BJP also accused the Opposition of intentionally creating disruption in Parliament to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from speaking. Party leaders claimed the Prime Minister was ready to address the House but could not do so because of the uproar by Congress members.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan claimed the Congress was preventing even other opposition parties from being heard. “Because of the Congress, no opposition party is able to express its views. Climbing onto the table and insulting the Speaker is unacceptable. This is the beginning of a wrong tradition,” he said.
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale alleged the Opposition had disrespected democracy and members of the Dalit community. “Papers were thrown when a Dalit MP (TDP MP Krishna Prasad Tenneti) was in the chair. This is an attempt to disrespect him,” he said.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition of focusing only on disruption. “They don’t want to talk about India’s progress. Their only agenda is to create a ruckus, tear papers, throw them at the Speaker and halt Parliament,” he said, adding that the Speaker’s rulings were being deliberately ignored.
