Lok Sabha breaks logjam after Speaker Om Birla convenes all-party meeting; to debate SIR of electoral rolls on December 9

Floor leaders from various opposition parties will meet on Wednesday morning in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, to discuss their joint strategy in Parliament.

The Trinamool Congress did not participate in a meeting of opposition parties held on Monday, which aimed to develop a collective strategy for the first day of the winter session.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha will debate the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as part of a discussion on electoral reforms next Tuesday (December 9, 2025) as the logjam between the Opposition and the government was broken after Sabha Speaker Om Birla convened an all-party meeting, following a washout of the proceedings of the House for the second consecutive day.

In Rajya Sabha, the standoff between the government and the opposition over the demand for a debate on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls continued on Tuesday (December 2, 2025), with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju refusing to give a timeline for the debate, even though he said the government was ready to have a discussion.

    Oppn leaders to meet in Parliament to discuss joint strategy

    Floor leaders from various opposition parties will meet on Wednesday morning in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, to discuss their joint strategy in Parliament.

    Sources said the opposition leaders will convene at 9.45 a.m. to plan their approach during the ongoing winter session of Parliament.

    The Trinamool Congress did not participate in a meeting of opposition parties held on Monday, which aimed to develop a collective strategy for the first day of the winter session.

    Various parties have been protesting in Parliament, demanding a discussion on the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, but the government declined to hold an immediate discussion on this matter.
