The Aam Aadmi Party Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has asserted that his party does not hesitate to act against its own leaders when allegations arise, drawing a contrast with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The statement comes amid the arrest of former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar in connection with a suicide case.

Highlighting his stance, Kejriwal said that when serious allegations surfaced against a minister in Punjab, the party acted swiftly and without bias. The minister was not only removed from his post but was also arrested. The party contrasted this with an incident in Haryana, where an ADGP died by suicide and, according to AAP, those accused received support from their party and government.

Bhullar was arrested on Monday from Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district, two days after Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a district manager with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, died by suicide after accusing the AAP MLA of harassment. Police said Bhullar was being brought to Amritsar and would be produced in a court there.

Randhawa reportedly consumed poison early Saturday. A video later surfaced in which he purportedly accused Bhullar of harassment. Following the incident, Bhullar resigned as minister at the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

An FIR was registered against Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and personal assistant Dilbag Singh under sections related to abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation, and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Chief Minister Mann said strict action would be taken against anyone violating the law, irrespective of their position. He emphasised that shielding anyone was not part of the party’s agenda.
