Pathankot youth hacked to death by over 10 assailants; arms, legs chopped off

PATHANKOT: A 30-year-old man was hacked to death with sharp-edged weapons in a brutal attack late on Thursday night, with the assailants allegedly chopping off both his arms and legs.

One of his friends was also injured in the assault.Police said the attackers arrived in two cars and allegedly attacked the victim with datars and gandasis.The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the spot. The footage purportedly shows more than 10 assailants attacking the victim with sharp-edged weapons.A video purportedly recorded by the victim before his death has also surfaced. In the clip, he allegedly names some of the attackers and recounts the sequence of events.A police officer said the deceased has been identified as Gulshan. The attack took place around 12.30 am, he said.On receiving information, police and a forensic team reached the spot and launched an investigation.Preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from an old rivalry, the officer said. He confirmed that the victim's arms and legs had been severed in the assault but added that the exact motive was still under investigation.

A case has been registered, and multiple police teams have been formed to conduct raids and arrest the accused, Singh said.According to police, Gulshan and his friend, both residents of the Kaccha Quarters area in Model Town, were travelling on a motorcycle on Thursday night when they were allegedly intercepted by the attackers, who were lying in wait.The assailants allegedly surrounded them and attacked them with datars and gandasis over an old enmity. Gulshan sustained fatal injuries, while his friend was seriously injured.Local residents rushed both men to a hospital, where doctors declared Gulshan dead. His friend is undergoing treatment at the trauma centre.Police said Gulshan allegedly named some of the attackers in a video recorded shortly before his death. The clip has since gone viral on social media.
