Patient’s jewellery worth ₹5L stolen from hospital guest house, probe on

Jaipur: Jewellery worth nearly Rs 5 lakh belonging to a patient was allegedly stolen from a hospital guest house in Malviya Nagar, police said Friday.The incident took place in the early hours of June 12 at Apex Hospital in Malviya Nagar.

Police registered an FIR Thursday evening.The complainant, Gopiram Meena (58), a govt school teacher from Dausa’s Badoli village, approached the police after obtaining CCTV footage from the hospital.According to the FIR, Meena had brought his wife to the hospital after her health deteriorated. She was admitted to the emergency ward and later shifted to the ICU. Before the transfer, hospital staff handed over her jewellery to Meena for safekeeping.After completing admission formalities, Meena went to sleep in the hospital guest house around 12.30am. Police said three men entered the guest house around 3am and moved around the area where relatives of patients were resting."One of the accused then lay down beside Gopiram, pretending to be an attendant. Within minutes, he allegedly removed a bag containing the jewellery and quietly walked away before fleeing with his accomplices," a senior police officer said.

The theft came to light when Meena woke up and found the bag missing. He subsequently obtained CCTV footage from the hospital and lodged a complaint."The footage clearly shows the movement of three suspects and captures the theft being carried out in about five minutes," the officer said.Police said the footage shows the movement of the suspects and the alleged theft.
