Paypal founder Peter Thiel has purchased a mansion in Buenos Aires for about $12 million, according to a Forbes Argentina report. The property is located on Dardo Rocha Street in Barrio Parque, an area within Palermo Chico known for large homes and embassy residences.

The purchase adds to Thiel’s global real estate holdings and comes as he has been spending time in Argentina and meeting local officials. The report said Thiel has shown interest in Argentina and has met with President Javier Milei. It added that his presence in the country may be linked to broader investment considerations. Peter Thiel has also invested in properties in other countries, including New Zealand, as part of his global holdings.

As per the Forbes Argentina report, Peter Thiel’s mansion spans about 1,600 square meters, or around 17,200 square feet. It was designed by Argentine architect Alejandro Bustillo. The house includes formal living and dining areas, multiple bedrooms, office space, a wine cellar and a garden-facing terrace.The property is located in a part of the city where such homes are limited and rarely available for sale. The report said the interior has been rebuilt while maintaining the original structure.

The house is in Barrio Parque, described as one of the city’s high-value residential areas. It is near homes owned by public figures, including Argentine television personality Susana Giménez. The report said increased private security presence has been noticed around the property.The purchase price is reported to be among the highest for residential transactions in the area. According to a real estate firm cited in the report, such transactions are influenced by factors such as location and limited availability of similar properties.“It is very cheap for a world capital city,” Buenos Aires real estate consulting firm, BuySell BA, noted in a widely-circulated post flagging the deal. “It won’t be his last property purchase in Buenos Aires. And more of his associates and colleagues are also looking,” BuySell BA added.
