The Hyderabad district administration has invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against Lakhan Singh of Dhoolpet, who is accused of running a wholesale ganja trade, and is facing over 30 cases in various police and excise stations.

According to officials, Singh maintained links with major businessmen involved in the cultivation and supply of ganja in Odisha. He allegedly transported consignments ranging from 25 to 100 kilograms from Odisha to Dhoolpet, where the narcotics were distributed to local traders.

Within the past eight months, Singh was arrested three times with large hauls of 25 kg, 27 kg and 26 kg of ganja by the State Task Force (STF) team of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department. Several other cases of ganja seizures have been booked against him at Mangalahat, Dhoolpet, Narayanguda and other police stations.

Hyderabad Collector Dasari Harichandana passed the detention orders on the recommendation of Prohibition and Excise Enforcement Director Shanwaz Kasim.

Officials stated that the PD Act was necessary in view of Singh’s repeated offences despite multiple arrests by police and excise authorities.

The PD Act has previously been invoked on Angoori Bai, a notorious ganja dealer in Dhoolpet, who is currently in jail.
