Petition in HC against CCP polls withdrawn

Panaji: Uday Chari, who filed his nomination for the CCP elections, withdrew his petition in the high court on Monday. He sought the holding of the CCP elections based on the electoral rolls finalised by the Election Commission of India last month, following the SIR.“The petition was filed belatedly on the eve of elections, stating that the elections should be held based on the electoral roll just notified and not on the roll notified prior to elections. We pointed out to the HC that the petition was frivolous and filed at a belated stage. We also pointed out that the cut-off date fixed by the state election commission was the basis on which the rolls were finalised, and nobody, not even Chari, challenged it all this while,” advocate general Devidas Pangam said after the hearing .“The court was about to dismiss his petition. But asked the lawyer whether Chari would withdraw the petition; otherwise, it would be dismissed with costs,” Pangam said.
