Petrol and diesel prices were raised once again on Monday, marking the fourth increase this month, as state-owned oil marketing companies continued transferring the burden of soaring global crude oil prices to consumers.

Petrol became costlier by Rs. 2.61 per litre, while diesel saw an increase of Rs. 2.71 per litre.

The latest revision comes against the backdrop of ongoing volatility in the global energy market. With no progress in the US-Iran negotiations and the key Strait of Hormuz still shut, fears of disruptions in crude oil supply have intensified.

Since the resumption of daily fuel price revisions on May 15 following a long pause, petrol and diesel prices have cumulatively increased by almost Rs 7.5 per litre.

Earlier, on Saturday, fuel prices across all variants were increased by an average of 90 paise per litre nationwide, making it the third hike within eight days. Before that, prices were first raised by Rs 3 on May 15, followed by another increase of 90 paise on May 19.

Revised Fuel Prices In Major Cities

In Delhi, petrol prices rose from Rs 99.51 to Rs 102.12 per litre after an increase of Rs 2.61, while diesel climbed from Rs 92.49 to Rs 95.20 per litre, up by Rs. 2.71.

In Mumbai, petrol is now being sold at Rs 111.21 per litre following a hike of Rs. 2.72, whereas diesel prices increased by Rs 2.81 to reach Rs 97.83 per litre.

In Kolkata, petrol prices surged by Rs. 2.87 to Rs 113.51 per litre, while diesel rates touched Rs 99.82 per litre after the latest revision.

In Chennai, petrol now costs Rs 107.77 per litre, while diesel prices have been revised to Rs 99.55 per litre.

CNG Prices Also Witness Recent Hikes

Apart from petrol and diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG) prices have also gone up in the past few days.

In Delhi, CNG prices were increased by Re 1 per kg on May 23. With earlier hikes on May 15 and May 17, the total increase in CNG prices has now reached Rs 4 per kg.

Fuel retailers across India, including private companies, have mostly followed the pricing pattern adopted by state-owned oil marketing firms.
