Petrol price crosses ₹110 mark in Bengaluru, fourth hike in 10 days

Fuel prices in Bengaluru saw a sharp increase on May 25, prompting transport associations to urge the government of Karnataka to intervene and ease the burden on the sector.

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the fourth time in 10 days, with the latest revision adding ₹2.7–₹2.8 per litre across all variants. Petrol prices in Bengaluru rose to ₹110.93 per litre from ₹108.09 on May 24, while diesel climbed to ₹98.80 per litre from ₹95.99.

The consecutive hikes over the past 10 days have significantly impacted both the transport sector and the general public, increasing operational costs and pushing up prices of essential goods.

The Karnataka State Travel Operators’ Association (KSTOA) said the continuous rise in fuel prices is affecting goods transport, cabs, buses, and even agriculture, with a cascading effect on commodity prices

KSTOA president Radhakrishna Holla urged the government to take corrective steps. “The State Government must reconsider the taxes imposed on fuel. At the same time, unnecessary government expenditure should be reduced to ease the financial burden on the public,” he told The Hindu.

KSTOA warned that if the trend continues, it could lead to increased fares and further strain on commuters.
