The Central government on Saturday exposed a fake video circulated by some Pakistani propaganda accounts that falsely claimed External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar admitted that Pakistan’s sudden and aggressive retaliation during Operation Sindoor had caught India by surprise.

In a post on X, the government’s fact-checking arm, PIB Fact Check, flagged the video as “digitally manipulated" and generated using artificial intelligence. The agency said the clip was being shared online with fabricated remarks attributed to Jaishankar regarding India’s response during Operation Sindoor.

Govt Rejects Operation Sindoor Claim

“Deep Fake Alert! Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally manipulated video falsely claiming that External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar admitted that Pakistan’s sudden and aggressive retaliation during #OperationSindoor caught India by surprise," PIB Fact Check said.

The fact-checking unit categorically rejected the claim, stating that Jaishankar had made no such remarks.

“This video is #Fake and digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar did not make any such statement," it added.

Doctored Clip Traced To 2024 Video

The manipulated clip originated from a genuine video recorded in 2024 and was altered to insert fabricated comments. The fact-checking unit also shared the link to the original footage, which predates Operation Sindoor, which took place in 2025 following the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam.

The government urged social media users to remain cautious and verify content before sharing it online. PIB Fact Check also encouraged people to report suspicious or misleading content related to the Government of India through its official channels.
