Plumber held for attacking traffic cops in Navale Bridge

Pune: The Ambegaon police on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old plumber from Wadgaon on the charge of attacking a traffic constable after the latter stopped him for allegedly riding a motorcycle dangerously.The accused hit the constable with his helmet and damaged his POS machine. When another constable started recording the incident on his cellphone, the accused allegedly pushed him and damaged his mobile handset. The incident took place near Navale Bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass around 6.30pm on Thursday.An officer from the Ambegaon police station said the traffic constable noticed the man riding a motorcycle in a dangerous manner.

The constable stopped the motorcyclist and asked him to produce his driving licence and vehicle registration documents. “The rider refused to show the documents and spoke arrogantly to the constable. When the complainant tried to photograph the rider and his vehicle using his POS machine, the rider hit him on the head.

He then damaged the machine,” the officer said.He said the machine slipped from the constable’s hand. When the constable bent down to pick up the damaged machine, the rider allegedly hit him again with his helmet.

Seeing this, another police constable started recording the incident on his cellphone. “The accused snatched the cellphone and threw it away. The police then arrested the rider, identified as Sadanand Salunke and brought him to the police station,” he said.The accused has been charged under sections 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty), 281 (rash driving) and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the officer said.
