Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on Saturday announced a new strategic partnership between the two countries during delegation-level talks in Auckland, with both leaders looking to expand cooperation beyond trade and strengthen ties in areas such as economy, security and the Indo-Pacific.

PM Modi, on his first visit to New Zealand in 40 years by an Indian Prime Minister, said the two nations are “natural partners” and that their shared democratic values make their relationship stronger.

Luxon said the strategic partnership will provide a broader framework for India-New Zealand relations as both sides work towards deeper cooperation.

During his two-day visit to New Zealand, the Prime Minister will hold talks with his New Zealand counterpart on ways to further enhance economic, trade and commercial engagements.
