PM Modi and leaders including Kharge and Birla paid floral tributes to B R Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several political leaders paid tribute to B R Ambedkar at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament complex on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. The event marked Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary.

Among those present were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union minister Kiren Rijiju, and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. All leaders offered floral tributes in his honour.

A rare light-hearted exchange

During the event, Modi and Kharge were seen sharing a brief and friendly interaction. Visuals showed the two leaders greeting each other, shaking hands, and exchanging a few words. They were also seen smiling and laughing together, a moment that stood out.

Before this, Modi met Om Birla and C P Radhakrishnan, and then approached Kharge for the interaction.

A similar moment was seen a few days earlier when Modi briefly spoke with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Both leaders exchanged a few words politely before continuing with their schedules.

Meanwhile, PM Modi led Members of Parliament in offering tributes and said Ambedkar’s work continues to inspire people. He noted that Ambedkar’s life motivates efforts to build a just and progressive society.

Kharge described Ambedkar as a visionary who gave India its moral and constitutional foundation. He urged people to protect the values of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice.

Rahul Gandhi said Ambedkar’s ideals and the Constitution are facing challenges and added that he would continue to defend them.

Dr BR Ambedkar, known as Babasaheb, was the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and played a key role in India’s social reform movement.
