Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on Wednesday. His 14-kilometre roadshow also began in the morning, drawing large crowds along the route.

The roadshow started from Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) and is scheduled to pass through Lahartara, Kachahri, Ambedkar Chauraha, Chaukaghat, Teliyabag, Lahurabir and Maidagin before culminating at the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, where the Prime Minister will offer prayers.

Modi, who represents Varanasi in the Lok Sabha, performed darshan at the historic shrine soon after arriving in the city. His visit drew massive crowds, with people gathering in large numbers at Lahurabir crossing and along the route to welcome him.

BJP MLA Ravindra Jaiswal, speaking to ANI, said that Modi’s trips to Kashi are closely associated with new development projects for the city.

“Whenever PM Modi comes to Kashi, he announces new inaugurations before leaving… Today, he is going to seek (Kashi Vishwanath) Baba’s blessings… Today, the news spread that he is coming, and the people of Varanasi could not stop themselves and thronged the road to get a glimpse and greet him," Jaiswal said.

PM Modi To Inaugurate 594-KM Ganga Expressway In UP

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway at Meerut. The six-lane greenfield corridor, which can be expanded to eight lanes, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 36,230 crore.

The expressway passes through 12 districts — Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj — and is aimed at providing seamless high-speed connectivity across the western, central and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh.

Meerut District Magistrate and Collector Vijay Kumar Singh told ANI on Tuesday that there is significant public enthusiasm about the Ganga Expressway, stressing that it will substantially improve connectivity to Prayagraj and the state capital, Lucknow.

“The Prime Minister’s main programme for the Ganga Expressway is scheduled for Hardoi district tomorrow… People are very happy that this expressway will improve connectivity not only between Prayagraj but also the capital Lucknow, saving them about two hours. As far as the trial run of the expressway is concerned, the riding quality and other aspects of our district are excellent. This government has built a world-standard road, and people are very happy with this government’s work…" Singh said.
