Here's everything you need to know about its route, speed, features and why it marks a major step towards greener rail travel.

India is all set to enter a new era of eco-friendly rail travel with the launch of its first indigenously developed hydrogen-powered passenger train. The train marks a major step towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation. Here are the key facts about this landmark project. (File photo)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate India's first hydrogen-powered passenger train from Jind railway station in Haryana on July 17. The launch is seen as a major milestone in Indian Railways' green energy journey. (File photo)

The train will operate on the Jind-Sonipat section under Northern Railway. This route has been chosen as the first corridor for hydrogen-powered rail operations in the country. (Image: Firstpost)

Unlike conventional diesel trains, this train uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity. The only major by-products are water and heat, making it a much cleaner alternative that helps reduce carbon emissions. The train is powered by a 1,200 kW hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion system, making it one of the most powerful hydrogen-powered passenger trains developed so far. (Image: PIB)

The hydrogen train consists of 10 coaches designed to carry passengers comfortably while showcasing India's growing expertise in clean rail technology. The train has been designed to operate at a maximum speed of 75 kmph. Before its launch, it underwent multiple rounds of testing to ensure its safety and performance. (Image: Moneycontrol)

With this launch, India joins countries such as Germany, Japan, China and the United States, which have adopted hydrogen-powered rail technology as part of their efforts to make transportation more sustainable. (File photo)

The hydrogen train is part of Indian Railways' broader plan to reduce its carbon footprint and adopt cleaner sources of energy. If successful, similar trains could be introduced on more non-electrified routes across the country in the future. (Image: X)
