The Tirupati police on Sunday (August 24, 2025) arrested a sanitation worker who allegedly turned into a notorious vehicle lifter and seized as many as 53 stolen motorcycles.

The accused identified as P. Kumar (39) of Tiruchanur, is facing charges in several police stations including Tiruchanur, Tirupati Rural, Alipiri, Chandragiri, Tirupati East, Tirupati West, SVU campus, Yerpedu, Srikalahasti One Town and Two Town police limits.

The police caught the accused after noting his suspicious movement during a vehicle check at the Renigunta-Chandragiri bypass road on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju told the media that Kumar, working as a sanitation worker in Sulabh toilet outlets, resorted to lifting motorcycles to meet his vices and wayward lifestyle.

The value of 53 stolen two-wheelers was estimated at ₹40 lakh. Mr. Raju announced rewards for the team of Tiruchanur policemen led by Inspector B. Sunil Kumar for arresting the accused.
