MALERKOTLA: The Police in Malerkotla have apprehended a notorious proclaimed offender (PO) who had been implicated in approximately fifty cases across various police stations in the state and neighbouring states over the past years.The accused, identified as Rupam Sharma of Surya Enclave, Jalandhar, was arrested by the CIA wing at Maharona and has been sent to 14 days judicial remand by the court.Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh stated that police officials, under the supervision of SP (Detective) Sat Pal Sharma, had captured a Proclaimed Offender from the Jalandhar region, who was involved in about fifty cases registered in different police districts and neighbouring states during the past.
Most cases, including the one filed against Rupam Sharma at the Malerkotla City I police station in 2023, were under the Negotiable Instrument Act, and he had been absconding in the majority of them.SP Investigations Satpal Sharma mentioned that out of the total fifty cases, the accused was booked in two criminal cases, including one in Delhi, and was declared a proclaimed offender by the local court in Malerkotla in one of the cases recently. He added that the accused, who operated the firm R S Agro, was mostly booked for cheating or committing fraud, and in many instances, for cheque bounce. SP Satpal revealed that the accused has been sent to Malerkotla jail after the court remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.
