Belagavi Police have arrested seven people, including four employees of their own department, on the charge of killing an ex-serviceman.
This takes the total number of accused to nine, as the wife of the deceased and her paramour were secured a few days ago.
A team led by Circle Inspector Javed Mushapuri arrested Senior Scientific Officer P.N. Nagaraj, Lab Assistant Channaiah and Clerk Appasabh Naik of the Forensic Science Laboratory and first division assistant Ashok Gujanal from the Police Commissioner’s office.
They face the charge of fudging records to prove that ex-serviceman Sandeep Manjaragi died of a heart attack and was not murdered.
The woman and her associate Pundalik were arrested earlier.
Superintendent of Police Ramarajan said that initial investigation has shown that the woman conspired to kill her husband for claiming his life insurance amount.
She used her contacts at the hospital to inject a pesticide to kill her husband and to pass it off as a fatal heart attack.
A case has been registered in the Yamakanamaradi Police Station. Investigation is on.
