Police busts credit card fraud racket, 3 held

New Delhi: A credit card cyber fraud racket that would dupe its victims by pretending to be customer care executives, apparently redeeming credit card bonus points, has been busted by Delhi Police. Two people have been arrested, and a woman has been apprehended.According to the police, the case came to light when the police received a complaint from a resident of Shahdara on Dec 1. The man claimed that he received a phone call from a person posing as a customer care executive.He was then persuaded to click on a fraudulent link leading to a website that appeared genuine. Once he entered his credit card details, multiple unauthorised transactions were allegedly made, amounting to around Rs 2.5 lakh.“During the investigation, the team found that the amount cheated was used to purchase four mobile phones via an online shopping platform using the complainant’s credit card,” said DCP (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena.A total of eight mobile numbers involved in the fraud were traced by cops, issued in the names of three people — Avinash (28), Krishna (20) and Rekha (46). Avinash and Krishna were arrested, and Rekha was apprehended.

Krishna told cops that he arranged SIM cards for a local associate who would use them for cyberfraud.In a separate case, the relationship manager of a private bank was arrested for facilitating cyber fraud. The accused, identified as Irshad Malik (35), allegedly misused his position and opened fraudulent accounts without KYC verification. These accounts were later used to route the money, police said.
