The College of Applied Science at Malampuzha formed a college protection group (CPG) with the support of the State police on Tuesday. The CPG aims to safeguard students from harm by preventing illegal activities, substance abuse and legal issues.
The initiative is part of the community policing efforts of the Janamaitri Police Station, Malampuzha.
Sub-inspector P.K. Abdul Kareem, Janamaitri beat officer M. Ramesh, senior civil police officer K.M. Binoy, college principal A.V. Shalimon, teachers, parents, student representatives and local community representatives attended the inaugural meeting.
Earlier, District Panchayat president K. Binimol inaugurated the college’s academic year programme welcoming the first-year undergraduate students.
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu conducted the State level inauguration through online mode.
Electronics department head Sherry P. Hamsa led an orientation session for the four-year degree students.
Marutharode grama panchayat president C. Nirmala presided over the function. Several civic body heads, former principals and teachers of the college, student leaders, parents, achievers of the outgoing batches, teachers and college staff attended the inaugural.
Mr. Shalimon welcomed the gathering. Ms. Hamsa proposed a vote of thanks.
