For the Kalluru police personnel on the patrol, it was just another vehicle check on Saturday evening. However, it was not the same for a runaway couple fleeing towards Bengaluru on a motorcycle, as it turned out to be an unforgettable episode in their life.
Circle Inspector (CI) Suryanarayana and Sub‑Inspector (SI) Subba Reddy of Kalluru circle in Chittoor district stopped a motorcycle on the Madanapalle-Rompicharla road, and started their routine questioning. The youngsters on the motorcycle were initially hesitant to disclose their identities. Quick verification revealed that the duo was on the run after family members from both sides objected to their marriage proposal. It was also found that a missing case had been filed on the two by the family members at K.V. Palli police station in the neighbouring Annamayya district.
After the couple were taken to the Rompicharla police station, the two allegedly broke down in front of the police. According to the police, G. Vamsi (24) and Nandini (19), both from Mahal Rajupalli in K.V. Palli mandal, had been in love for years, but both families opposed the match. As their efforts to convince the families failed, the couple decided to run away and get married. They expressed fears of harm from parents and family members if returned, the police said.
Following age verification processes and other legalities, the police personnel arranged their marriage, provided them witnesses, duly solemnising their wedlock. The couple thanked the police, who cautioned their parents to desist from causing them any harm.
