A Pakistan-backed terror module was allegedly planning a petrol bomb attack on key locations in Delhi, including police establishments, the Anand Vihar Bus Terminal and the railway station, with reconnaissance videos of the targets sent to handlers in Pakistan, sources told CNN-News18.
The fresh details emerged during the interrogation of six suspects arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell from Delhi and Punjab earlier this week. Investigators said that the accused were allegedly acting on the instructions of Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti and his associates linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
According to sources, videos of the New Police Lines in Civil Lines, Anand Vihar Bus Terminal, the railway station and crowded markets were recovered from the accused’s mobile phones. The footage was allegedly sent to Bhatti through a banned messaging application.
Investigators have also retrieved chats between Bhatti and one of the arrested accused, Danish alias Chand Miyan, in which the handler allegedly instructed him to collect “material", prepare it and wait for further directions.
The Special Cell had earlier recovered three petrol bombs from the Vijay Ghat area near Rajghat, where Danish and his associate Salman were arrested before the alleged attack could be carried out. Police said Danish had been tasked with conducting reconnaissance and planning the attack in Delhi in return for ₹20,000, while Salman was assigned the role of recording the attack and sending videos to the Pakistan-based handler.
The investigation has also revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with 10 other Pakistan-based operatives working under Shahzad Bhatti. Police said another module linked to the network was involved in receiving and distributing weapons smuggled into India through drones. Four accused in that case were allegedly responsible for transporting, storing and selling the weapons in Delhi and neighbouring states.
The Delhi Police said that digital devices, financial transactions and communication records recovered from the accused are being examined to identify other members of the network and determine whether the modules were linked to additional terror or organised crime activities.
