Police officers suspended for allegedly drinking while on duty

Three police personnel belonging to the Kerala Armed Police (KAP) First Battalion were suspended for allegedly consuming alcohol inside the barracks of the Hill Palace police camp at Thripunithura here.

K.U. Abhilash, N. Nawaz, and M. Vishnu were suspended pending inquiry after they were found in an intoxicated state while on duty during a random inspection by higher officials on Friday, an officer said.

Abhilash, meanwhile, managed to escape police custody while they were being taken for a mandatory medical examination, and he was yet to be traced, the officer said. The other two were subjected to a breathalyzer test at the Hill Palace police station and later a comprehensive medical examination at the Thripunithura Taluk Hospital.

An Assistant Commandant has been ordered to probe the alleged misconduct inside the barracks.
