An accused in the murder of lawyer Anil Rathod was injured when the police opened fire at him during efforts to arrest him on the outskirts of Kalaburagi on Saturday night.
According to the police, the accused, Eshwar Rathod, was traced to Kesaratagi village following a tip-off. A Station Bazaar Police team proceeded to the location to apprehend him.
During the operation, he made an attempt to attack police personnel, including Shivaling, Anil and Sanganna.
Police Inspector Gurugowda Patil opened fire in self-defence, injuring the accused in the left leg, officials said.
The injured accused has been shifted to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police Commissioner Sharanappa S.D. visited the hospital and reviewed his condition.
In connection with the case, the police have detained three men, Haddi Imran, Minhaz and Abhishek, and are questioning them.
Anil Rathod was hacked to death near Old Jewargi Road on Thursday evening.
