Police register case on fake Facebook post targeting V M Sudheeran

Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram city cyber police have registered a case against a Facebook account user for allegedly creating and circulating a fake post in the name of senior Congress functionary V M Sudheeran with the intention of inciting hostility among the public and party workers.The case was registered on Sudheeran’s complaint, which was forwarded by home minister’s office to the city police commissioner. Police booked the user of the Facebook account under the name Mohammed Khaleel under Sections 192 and 336(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 66C of Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of Kerala Police Act.According to police, the accused allegedly prepared a fabricated social media post using photographs of Sudheeran and chief minister V D Satheesan and falsely attributed a statement to Sudheeran before circulating it on Facebook. Police alleged that the post was intended to provoke discord among the public and political activists.Police said the identity of the person using the account is yet to be established. They have launched an investigation to trace the accused and ascertain the origin of the fabricated post.
