Police secure boy as he kills youth during scuffle in Bagalkot district

A minor boy stabbed a 19-year-old youth during an altercation in Terdal of Bagalkot district on Monday.

The accused stabbed Rahul Saptasagar using a sharp object attached to his bike key chain.

The victim bled to his death. Though his friends and passers-by tried to shift him to hospital, he could not be saved.

The accused and the victim were classmates and from the same community. The accused, who is considered a child in conflict with law, is 16 years and 11 months old.

A few days ago, during Holi, there was a quarrel between the two.

The accused later boasted before a girl and some friends that he beat up Rahul during Holi.

Rahul came to know of this and called the accused to confront him in the presence of his friends.

Eyewitnesses, who are classmates and friends of both the accused and the victim, told the police that they made an attempt to separate the two when they quarrelled but the stabbing occurred suddenly during the scuffle.

A case has been registered at Terdal Police Station as Crime No 20/2026 for an offence punishable under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During investigation, the police secured the minor boy. The weapon used in the offence has also been recovered. It was found to be a sharp-edged object attached as part of the accused’s bike key. They have also seized the boy’s blood-stained clothes.

Since the accused is a juvenile aged 16 years and 11 months, he is being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Senior police officers visited the spot. Further investigation is in progress.
