Panchkula: Police personnel are set to expand the special campaign, “Crime and encroachment-free Panchkula,” to the entire district after claiming success in clearing illegal roadside settlements and encroachments in city sectors within a week. The drive, launched by police commissioner Pankaj Nain, aims to strengthen security arrangements, remove encroachments, and curb suspicious activities. The initiative has been carried out in collaboration with the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), which assisted in demolishing illegal structures and reclaiming govt land.Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Srishti Gupta said police teams conducted thorough verification of migrants and suspicious individuals occupying roadside areas without valid documents.
Special drives were carried out in urban sectors and the Raipur Rani police station area to identify such locations. She added that similar actions will continue in other parts of the district, ensuring that all illegal encroachments are removed.Officials noted that unidentified individuals living in roadside settlements often pose risks to public safety, with potential links to drug trafficking, theft, and other criminal activities.
To prevent recurrence, police verification and monitoring processes are being strengthened. SHOs and emergency response vehicle (ERV) teams have been instructed to maintain constant surveillance and act immediately on reports of suspicious activity.Bulldozers were deployed to clear encroachments at several sites, with HSVP officials assisting in restoring public spaces. Police said the campaign is not only about reclaiming land but also about addressing broader concerns of law and order.Commissioner Nain emphasized that the safety and well-being of citizens remain the top priority. He said illegal settlements along roads and public spaces without valid identification are a serious security concern. “This special drive against crime and encroachment will soon be concluded across the district, and strict action against such elements will continue in the future,” he remarked. With the campaign now set to cover the entire district, authorities hope to ensure safer public spaces, reduce criminal activity, and strengthen confidence among residents in Panchkula’s law enforcement.
