Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh, has amassed ₹172.63 crore gross domestically within two days of its release, breaking box office records. However, the film has sparked a political controversy, with opposition leaders accusing the filmmakers of promoting the ruling party's agenda through its portrayal of demonetisation and alleged demonisation of minorities while highlighting Pakistan state-sponsored radical Islamist terror. The film features real footage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including his 2014 oath-taking ceremony and 2016 demonetisation address, which has drawn both cheers in theatres and criticism on social media. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla defended the film, stating it exposes Pakistani terrorists and Indian agencies in a positive light, while Left leader Vivek Srivastava criticised it as BJP propaganda, calling demonetisation a failure and questioning the portrayal of late gangster Atiq Ahmed.
