Portugal’s disappointing start to the FIFA World Cup has taken another twist after Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, appeared to back criticism of Bruno Fernandes on social media. Her reaction came shortly after Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo on Wednesday, a result that has triggered heavy criticism back home.
While much of the attention has been on Ronaldo’s performance, Katia’s Instagram activity has now shifted part of the conversation toward Fernandes and raised fresh questions about the mood around the national team.

Portugal arrived in the United States as one of the favorites for the tournament. Roberto Martinez’s side took an early lead through Joao Neves, whose header put them in control. However, Yoan Wissa equalized just before halftime, and neither team could find a winner after the break.Cristiano Ronaldo faces criticism as Roberto Martinez defends decision
“I don’t understand some of his management. Cristiano Ronaldo was on the periphery and Martinez has to be brave enough to be the manager.”Martinez rejected those claims after the match. “We were finding it difficult because they were playing in a back six. “And in a situation like that, you can use his qualities. It makes no sense to get a player like Cristiano out of the game where you need goals.“The straight line is not the quickest way. The way he attracts defenders and uses space is valuable. When you need goals, you need a player like Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch.”
