Postgraduate Dental Student Dies By Suicide In Mumbai, Names Boyfriend In 6-Page Note

The postgraduate student was found hanging at her home in the Antop Hill area on Monday.

A 24-year-old Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) student allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai. She left behind a six-page note, in which she accused her boyfriend of mentally harassing her.

The postgraduate student, identified as Stuti Sonawane, was found hanging at her home in the Antop Hill area on Monday.

According to the police, her boyfriend, Fazal Mohammad Khan, an insurance agent, was arrested in Lower Parel in central Mumbai.

The note mentions that the woman’s friends knew about her troubles with her boyfriend and would often joke about the situation, saying, “We don’t want to see you in the fridge."

A police official said the deceased left behind a six-page purported suicide note in her room, naming Khan and accused him of constant harassment, news agency PTI reported.

Based on her parents’ complaint, the accused was arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 108 (abetment of suicide), he said.

The police suspect that the MDS student was in a relationship with Khan, who would suspect her of cheating and make hurtful remarks about her character.

The incident came to light after Sonawane did not step out of her room till about 11 am on Monday. When she did not respond to her parents calling out to her, they broke open the room’s door and found their daughter hanging from the ceiling.

She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

During the probe, police found that the victim and the accused, a resident of Worli, met via a dating application and were in a relationship since last one year.

The police is currently investigating the matter.
