Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Binoy Viswam has urged the Chief Electoral Officer, Kerala, to reconsider the decision to hold a meeting of political parties on December 13 to conduct a review of the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls to another convenient date in consultation with political parties in the State.
In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Kerala, he wondered how the Election Commission could forget the fact that December 13 was the date when the counting of the votes polled for the local body elections in the State would be held. Naturally, political parties would be engaged in analysis and assessments of poll results on the day. Holding such an important meeting on the day could only be construed as an infringement on the rights of the political parties and the democratic framework of Kerala, he said, calling for postponing the meeting.
