Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh, although blitzed in the Syed Mustaq Ali trophy for Punjab, was unable to replicate the same success playing in the Indian Premier League. However, in 2023, his fortunes changed when Shikhar Dhawan took over the captaincy of Punjab Kings and gave a run of games to Prabhsimran.

“When Shikhar [Dhawan] paaji was appointed as the captain two years ago, he gave me the surety that I will play all the games. In the same season, I scored a century. It was a turning point in my career,” said the Punjab youngster speaking to Cricktracker.

In addition to Dhawan, Prabhsimran also credited Yuvraj Singh. “Yuvi paji has played a big role in my career. I always talk to him like a brother and not like a player. I, Abhishek, Naman Dhir and Nehal Wadhera practice with him. We had a 10-12 days of camp with him last time around. He knows very well on what exact things we’ve to work on. On weekly basis, I get to speak with him. He has supported me a lot,” added Prabhsimran Singh.

The 2025 season has been the most productive one for Prasbhsimran as he managed to churn out 549 runs at an average of 32.29 and a strike rate of 160.53.

Tendulkar’s advice

Earlier in 2022, Prabhsimran had shared with Tendulkar his frustration about not getting games. Tendulkar’s words of wisdom calmed him down.

“It was frustrating. I was not getting the chance due to the team combinations, but I wanted to play. We had a match against Mumbai Indians and I went straight to Sachin sir. I told him ‘sir, I am getting restless, and the frustration is creeping up,” said Prabhsimran speaking to The Indian Express.

“He placed his arm on my shoulder and told me ‘You are here because you have worked hard. Think about them who are still toiling hard in domestic cricket, and are not picked by any team. Enjoy this phase. Train hard, and practice as per the match situation. Improve your game and it is not necessary that you will do well whenever you get a chance, but you will have that satisfaction. As an athlete, our job is to keep working hard and leave the rest to destiny.”
