Prepare for hot mornings and rainy afternoons in Madurai

Madurai: Residents of Madurai brace for the scorching heat to continue for another week, though heavy rain has been forecast for the afternoons and evenings for the next week.While the maximum temperature will continue to hover around 36°C, the real difference is with the minimum temperature which can go as low as 24°C. The forecast for rain will be beneficial for residents who rely on the Vaigai I and II drinking water schemes as the rain is expected to increase the water levels in the Vaigai dam, which is currently around 29ft.

The water supply under the schemes have been paused for the past two weeks owing to the low water level in the dam, a corporation official said.
