Private school correspondent arrested for impregnating Class X student in Konaseema

A private school correspondent has been arrested for allegedly impregnating a 15-year-old gir, under the Ramachandrapuram police division in Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh.

The incident came to light on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) after the victim was found to be pregnant during a medical test at a hospital. .

Ramachandrapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police, B. Raghuveer, told The Hindu: “Five months ago, the 38-year-old private school correspondent, A. S. Jayaraj, has allegedly raped the victim. Now, the victim is in her second trimester and her health condition is stable”. The victim was in class IX when the incident occurred. 

Accused arrested under POCSO

“The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The investigation is on. The victim is now with her parents”, said DSP Mr. Raghuveer. 

Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District Child Protection Officer B. Uma Lakshmi said that a probe is in progress on the incident. “The victim will have to undergo further medical examinations to ascertain her health condition. She will be given a choice either to be with her parents or admitted to nearby Child Care Centre”, added Ms. Uma Lakhsmi.
