Professor arrested for sexually assaulting, blackmailing former student

A 55-year-old professor from a university in Tamil Nadu was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a former student, and blackmailing her with a private video.

The accused, identified as K Raja, is an assistant professor at Annamalai University in Cuddalore. The woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted and threatened was a student at the university from 2018 to 2019.

Back then, the professor gained her confidence by assuring to help her with the studies, and allegedly recorded her private videos and later threatened and blackmailed her using the same.

Raja recently contacted the woman, who is currently completing her PhD from another state, and threatened her again.

Following his threats, the woman filed a police complaint, leading to the professor's arrest.

K Raja has been arrested on sexual assault charges, and was remanded to judicial custody.
