Prohibitory orders imposed in Imphal East

Imphal: District magistrate of Imphal East, Nivedita Lairenlakpam, has imposed prohibitory orders across the district under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, citing concerns over possible breaches of peace and threats to public safety.The restrictions will remain in force for two months from Thursday unless modified or withdrawn earlier.The order, issued on Thursday, said the superintendent of police of Imphal East reported a “serious and continuing apprehension” of a breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquillity, and danger to human life and property due to possible unlawful activities by anti-social elements.The directive said the earlier prohibitory order issued in Dec 2025 had expired, making fresh preventive measures necessary.Under the order, assembly of five or more persons in public places has been banned. Carrying firearms, arms, cudgels, sticks, swords, spears, explosives, corrosive substances, or any object capable of being used to commit violence has also been prohibited.
