Indore: Indore Development Authority (IDA) has halted the proposed elevated road project stretching from Malwa Mill via Patnipura to Rasoma Square. The decision follows a detailed technical feasibility survey, which concluded that structural constraints and local traffic configurations render the multi-crore corridor unviable. The survey, conducted by a consultant over the past year, pointed out that the 30-meter road width between Malwa Mill and Patnipura was insufficient for an elevated structure. Constructing the corridor would severely narrow the surface roads below, leaving inadequate space to build mandatory entry and exit ramps at crucial junctions.Furthermore, traffic data indicated that long-distance transit along this route is remarkably low.
Instead, the vast majority of vehicular volume consists of local commuters turning into neighbouring colonies and cross-streets, including MIG, Pardeshipura, MR-9, Bhamori, and Mechanic Nagar. Engineers noted that an elevated road would fail to resolve surface-level gridlocks at high-density intersections like Anoop Talkies Square.IDA has also shelved its cable car project, which was surveyed across seven city routes—including a corridor from railway station to Vijay Nagar via Malwa Mill.
Despite substantial public expenditure on initial surveys, the cable car network was deemed unfeasible due to high capital costs and logistical challenges. The authority will now evaluate standalone flyovers and alternative traffic management systems to address ongoing bottlenecks.
